least care house plants by year-round use, there is a greater chance of disease occurring after the first season."
Some scientists believe the same can be true of the other species of flowering plants: They provide a long-term habitat for growth and development in the wild to prevent damage to plants and animals such as insects and aphids but also serve for nutrient recycling for crops that rely on the plant's nutrients.
In the short term, it could be an effective method to help farmers in need of fertilizer to cut down on pesticide use and to improve soil quality, says Mark Schott, of The Environmental Studies Society.
Still, it adds a very different dimension to the issue -- a more effective, more successful way than those with conventional fertilizers such as Roundup. It could also save time and money if some people do decide to purchase insecticides that add an extra layer of chemicals, Schott advises.
"It's hard to know what to do as you're farming these things. Some people just eat some vegetables and eat them for a few hours. The thing that makes farmers happy is for them to have a place to live where they can grow that variety," Schott says.
But if these treatments can save time, money and energy, the issue isn't so easy to address. Pollution and toxic chemicals that contribute to soil erosion or other problems can contribute to damage to crops that provide valuable nutrients, that are much less expensive to grow and
