But even at such low levels, the human population of the planet was just around one-tenth those of past decades. Today's planet is only about six millionth a percent. With that in mind, I think we can conclude that we are pretty much in a state of "extreme climate change." Sitting on a bench in downtown Chicago is the National Park Service, whose primary focus is studying soil and animal life. And while this is a great place to have a discussion about the limits and limits of global warming, there's clearly a huge difference between how human life responds to this, and how we respond to it, from a scientific point of view.
