As the new cityscape is being designed, there will be extra room and more space for the construction of new buildings. This is just the beginning. The new building will be built to house the University of Toronto's first and only public indoor garden.

The project is being backed in part by the Green Bank Green Bank Foundation. The non-profit community partnership will have an active role in transforming the area around the garden. They also have set the goal of transforming its design to take this land away from existing businesses and developers to provide people with healthier options.

"It's a wonderful and unique area to grow organic garden gardens," said Dr. Peter Rees, director of conservation and sustainable development at the Green Bank Garden Research Institute. Rees says it's essential that the community get involved in setting the ground rules of Green Bank Gardens.

"The way we understand the process is we are starting the process and we are working on the final decision."

Rees says this is already a popular garden location around Toronto and he plans to push for its presence in the city's parks and greenways.

"We want to make sure that we are having a strong, permanent environmental presence on this city site," he explains. "If we were to become a leader there I think that would be an awesome thing for this city to do."
