There is a lot of mistrust between the government and farmers. Farmers say they have never seen the pollution they are forced to face. They say even when the area's water supply is not clean they must buy water by the tap.

"I think the government should be giving farmers all the same information," said a farmer.

However, this attitude is not reflected in the district's management. Many farmers have become concerned about the health benefits of cooking oil and have been worried about the impacts of pesticides on the plants.

Several farmers have accused Nandapra district officials of neglecting their plants during the summer and planting plants that have been damaged or fallen too far. They also accuse the district of not giving adequate rainfall to all crops.

In 2011 they staged a hunger strike and threatened to sue farmers, arguing that the farmers were planting poisoned crops. "I was given a bag of potatoes and two of honey jars to eat," said the farmer, who cannot be named for legal problems.

The family said that after a year or two farmers were using pesticides on the crops that the plants had been given the chance to grow on. Other workers went on strike and set out to fight these pests back, hoping to push the officials to take more action.
